Will CM Punk Lose His Title Due to the Shield Interference?

After their onslaught on the People’s Champion during the latest edition of Monday Night Raw, the team of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns—better known as the Shield—have been banned from interfering with the WWE Championship match between current champion CM Punk and his challenger the Rock at this Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.

The announcement was made on Tuesday via a WWE.com update on a supposed injury the Rock had.

According to the WWE.com update, “Mr. McMahon has added a new stipulation to Sunday’s WWE Championship Match: If The Shield interfere in this bout, Punk will be stripped of his title.”

Ever since the Shield’s debut on November 8, 2012 during the Survivor Series pay-per-view, Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns have been instrumental in allowing the 400-plus-days champion CM Punk to retain his title. Could the Shield once again join Punk in the ring?

With the Rock expected to win the WWE title against CM Punk this weekend, the Shield’s intervention at the Royal Rumble could set up the perfect scenario where Punk can both drop the strap and seem like a strong champion.

If Punk was to lose his title to the Rock as a result of a disqualification—on account of the latest stipulation on their match—he could set up a rematch claiming that he was “robbed” of his title.

It remains to be seen whether the Shield will have a presence this Sunday, but if CM Punk is to lose his title, what better way than to do so because of outside interference.

WWE CM Punk Vs. Ryback – First Raw 2013

There were rumors circulating that the promotion wanted to make sure Ryback got one more crack at the WWE championship before the Royal Rumble, making up for the match he didn’t get at the TLC pay-per-view (PPV) because of CM Punk’s untimely injury.

Now it appears there’s a date for that match and it’s Jan. 7, 2013, on the very first episode of Monday Night Raw of the new year. Not only that but on the Christmas Eve episode of Raw, Ryback reveals he wants it to be a tables, ladders, and chairs match.

This is interesting for a number of reasons. For starters, Punk was taken off the holiday house show tour because he needed more time to heal. Having him come back to a match type like that against a wrestler like Ryback seems risky, especially considering the stakes.

After all, it’s just a few weeks away from the Rumble and Punk’s planned match with The Rock.

TLC makes sense however it allows for interference on Punk’s behalf; and it’ll be a ladder match, meaning Ryback can lose without being pinned. It works, keeps the title on Punk, and leaves open the run in possibility to get Ryback into a feud elsewhere and out of the immediate title picture.

“The Great One” is also back the first episode of Raw, on Jan. 7 in Tampa, Florida. That sets up easy for Punk to beat Ryback and Rock to make his presence felt immediately after, or any other number of scenarios that ultimately results in some sort of interaction with Rock and Punk.

That should be fun, but this is WWE we could see some serious screw ups.

Does CM Punk Deserves to Face The Rock at WrestleMania

CM Punk has held the WWE Championship for 379 consecutive days as of this writing, a feat that has placed him firmly in the record books.

He has held nearly every major championship in WWE and worked some of the biggest names in the business including the Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Triple H, Randy Orton and of course, John Cena. But he has one opponent left to face and one mountain left to climb.

The time has come for CM Punk to face The Rock in the main event of WrestleMania.

To be honest, I have long held the opinion that Rocky will square off against Cena, in a rematch from this year’s Mania.  Though Vince McMahon had advertised WrestleMania 28’s epic showdown as “once in a lifetime,” I for one was not convinced that would actually be the case.

After all, this is WWE we’re talking about here, where anything can happen, right?

Rock vs. Cena at WrestleMania 28 was a huge moneymaker for WWE, and was the biggest WWE pay-per-view of all time.  Why would any promoter, especially McMahon, stop with just one match?

Why not cash in one more time?  Certainly every issue between Rocky and John could not have been resolved with just one bout, why not give fans another great WWE moment?

A win over Rocky would vindicate John from this year’s loss and would once again reestablish him as the undisputed top dog of WWE.  No doubt about it, that was definitely my train of thought when considering what the main event of WrestleMania 29 should be.

But after the way recent storylines have played out on Raw the past month or so, I have really changed my mind on this one.  Why?

Because of the two Superstars, I believe that CM Punk is the one headed in the right direction for a prime spot against the People’s Champion on the grandest stage of them all.

Punk is the champ.  Period.  He has defeated every opponent placed in front of him, consistently turned in one great match after another, and done it all while still being as effective on the microphone as he was since he first entered the business.  And with the addition of Paul Heyman by his side, Punk is stronger than ever before.

He is at the pulse of the company, the featured attraction on Monday Night Raw.  As the champion, Punk holds the richest prize in the industry and has become the biggest heel on WWE programming.

Though Ryback has put him to the test, Punk always finds a way to come out on top and despite any criticism he receives due to ratings, the fact is that WWE has showed a real commitment to keeping Punk at the top.

Add to this the jabs that both Rocky and Punk have thrown at each other via Twitter over the past few months, and you have a brewing rivalry that I believe will not end at the Royal Rumble.

Are Lita (Amy Dumas) and CM Punk Still Dating – November 2012

CM Punk Vs. The Undertaker – WWE Championship – Wrestlemania!

There are reports coming out currently that is stating that the main event for Wrestlemania 29 will be CM Punk vs The Undertaker, get this…for the WWE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Current creative plans have been brewing that CM Punk will defeat The Rock at the 2013 Royal Rumble, thus parading into Wrestlemania as the champion. Rumors ran hot over the summer that The Rock was slated to be the one to finally put an end to CM Punk championship reign at The Royal Rumble by winning the Championship and going on to Wrestlemania to battle John Cena for the WWE Championship with Cena going over. However, there are two things that raise concern of this theory. #1.) Having The Rock win the WWE Championship at The Rumble is a great risk, considering all of the days and shows that The Rock would miss between January’s Royal Rumble and April’s Wrestlemania. This wouldn’t be a good look for show ticket sales where The WWE Champion would not be on the roster for multiple shows. #2.) Its a great chance and concern that John Cena is not as marketable (at this moment) as he was some years ago. has John Cena fallen flat with his character? And thus the simple mindedness of his current booking with AJ Lee? Considering Wrestlemania is the biggest WWE Show of the year, there will be much more that is needed than just slapping Cena’s name to the main event.

A CM Punk vs Undertaker main event could in fact tear the house down. And with the current “John Cena Lull” this could be the money match that will generate the pay per view buys. And we can finally see the finalization of this feud that was alive in 2009.

Heres a video of a segment from back then!

How Did CM Punk’s Win at WWE Survivor Series

This is  it, folks.  The main event of Survivor Series, the one that we have all been waiting for.

WWE Champion CM Punk versus John Cena versus Ryback.  The great part about this one is that, literally, anything can happen.

It’s a safe bet that nearly everyone was calling for Punk to retain the belt and celebrate his one year mark tomorrow night on Raw.  It’s a history making run, it puts Punk in the record books and it does more than anything else has thus far in terms of cementing his legacy in WWE.

Why in the world would you want to take that moment away from him?

But let’s not forget about John Cena who is now, as he has been for quite some time, the face of the company.

At any given moment, on any given night, Cena could once again be given the strap and reclaim his place as the top champion in the industry.

That could literally happen at anytime.

For the superstar known as Ryback, the richest prize in the business is a goal that many of us thought was extremely out of reach for him.  He was too new in his gimmick, too green with his ring-work, the deck seems to be stacked too high against him.

But Ryback has the look, he has the character and he works in a company who loves what he brings to the table.  If Vince McMahon has his way, and he usually does, Ryback will be WWE Champion at some point.

So, what happened in the match?

Punk reluctantly handed the belt to the ref, then ran from Cena.

Ryback then gave chase to Punk, attacking him, but John wanted in on the action too.  Before you knew it, the two men came face to face.

The champ slid in the back door and gained the momentary upper hand on Ryback.  However, Cena was soon back to his feet and once again stood nose to nose with Ryback.

The lock-up between the two ended with Ryback powering him down, but he was quickly back in the match.  Ryback continued to throw his weight around, kicking and punching Cena in the corner, then Irish-whipping him into the other corner.

Punk, blowing a kiss to the crowd, was soon met with Ryback’s power game as well, but was then downed by Cena.

By this point, the crowd was chanting “Let’s go Cena, Cena Sucks,” the mantra that has been repeated seemingly forever now.

But it soon amounted to nothing, once again, as John ended up outside the ring, while Punk and Ryback continued to mix it up.

Once all three men were back in the ring, Ryback continued to show his physical dominance over Cena.  John was dragged out of the ring by Punk and then thrown into the steel steps.

I have to say that while Ryback, week in and week out, is putting forth as much effort as possible to get over, he still struggles to get the crowd’s full support.

Even when Punk had him down and they began to chant “feed me more,” it did not last long.

Soon, the champ was down and Ryback was ready to hit the Meathook clothesline, which he did.  He picked Punk up for the Shell-Shock, but was suddenly dropped into Cena’s STF.

The referee kept asking Ryback if he wanted to submit, but Big Hungry held on.

That is, until CM Punk came crashing down with an elbow on both men.

Punk, suffering the effects of the drop, shook it off and was back to his feet, giving the GTS sign.  But John countered, with the crowd booing every thing that Cena did.

Ryback was now back in full effect and grabbed both Cena and Punk outside the ring.

However, both men fought their way out, hooking Ryback with a double suplex straight through the announcer table.

It then came down to the two men who have been at the top of WWE for a while now, CM Punk and John Cena.

Cena hit his usual routine of moves, but when he went for the AA, he missed it and Punk hit the GTS.

But Cena kicked out at two and the crowd was very into the match at this point.

From out of nowhere, Cena hit Punk with the AA, but this time it was the WWE Champion who kicked out.  He went to Paul Heyman, apparently for some words of encouragement, then refocused on Cena.

John attempted to lock Punk into the STF, but Punk blocked the move.

Both men were back up until Cena got Punk into the STF, when suddenly Ryback came in from nowhere and broke the hold.  Ryback grabbed Punk for the Shell-Shock, but at the last second, Cena broke up the pinfall.

Now it was Cena who as on Ryback’s shoulders.

But before he could drop him, three men clad in black rushed in from the crowd and attacked him, sending him through the other announce table.

That’s right folks, the boys from NXT are finally getting called up.

Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins; welcome to WWE.

Good match, bizarre ending, and right now I honestly only have one thought; I can’t wait for Monday Night Raw.

Here’s some Pics of The NXT boys, and how CM Punk won the title at Survivor Series

Do the odds favor CM Punk at Survivor Series?

The rule of thumb regarding predictions for Triple Threat Matches with championship gold on the line is that the odds always favor the challengers. With two competitors simultaneously facing one titleholder, there are more ways for a contender to capitalize than there are for the reigning champion to come away with a victory.

Yet if recent history is any guide, WWE Champion CM Punk may not hesitate to test those odds.

That’s because The Straight Edge Superstar, who now must defend the WWE Title in a Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series 2012 against John Cena and Ryback, can call upon his successful experiences in three-sided bouts throughout the past year. Since claiming the championship at last year’s edition of Survivor Series, CM Punk has stepped into the ring for a Triple Threat Match at three different pay-per-views — WWE: Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2011, No Way Out 2012 and The 25th Anniversary of SummerSlam — and ultimately left all three victorious.

Does that triumphant trend boost the WWE Champion’s chances of winning at Survivor Series as well? While the probable outcomes of a Triple Threat Match continue to put the challengers at an advantage, CM Punk’s track record certainly implies that he can handle himself when facing two Superstars at the same time.

At WWE: TLC 2011, the two-time WWE Champion escaped being handcuffed to a ring post and managed to put both Alberto Del Rio and The Miz away in his first pay-per-view title defense. He later directed the numbers in his favor at No Way Out 2012 by neutralizing one opponent, Daniel Bryan, with a chin-crunching Go to Sleep and later sealing the win by outlasting Kane.

The most valuable evidence of Punk’s resiliency resides in his most recent Triple Threat Match at SummerSlam, however. Moments after John Cena knocked out Big Show with a monumental Attitude Adjustment, Punk pushed Cena out of the ring and claimed the easy pinfall for himself. In mere moments, the Chicago-born competitor went from being the odd man out in the match to the one being declared the winner before a raucous STAPLES Center crowd.

One of Punk’s adversaries in that bout, John Cena, will hope for a different outcome at the upcoming pay-per-view in Indianapolis. Of course, the Cenation leader has not minced words in the past when describing the unpredictability of the three-sided clash’s outcome and the frustration it can create for the competitors.

“I hate any match that isn’t a traditional tag team match or a traditional singles match because anything can happen,” Cena said in a 2011 interview with WWE.com. “It’s truly one of those deals where it’s all about being in the right place at the right time.”

Will Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis prove to be the right place for Cena to reclaim the WWE Championship? Is the main event at Survivor Series the right time for Ryback’s rise to the top of WWE? Or can CM Punk come away with his record-setting WWE Title reign intact?

If neither Cena nor Ryback learn from CM Punk’s recent history with the Triple Threat Match, then the challengers may be doomed to see The Straight Edge Superstar repeat his results in the championship clash this Sunday.
